Santa Barbara Maritime Museum
Santa Barbara is known for its rich and beautiful history. There are many pieces to Santa Barbara’s history and culture to explore. One of these pieces that may not be as obvious, (or it may be!), is its maritime history. Ian Filippini Santa Barbara loves to learn about Santa Barbara’s maritime history and there is no better place to do that than at Santa Barbara Maritime Museum (www.sbmm.org).
The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum is located at 113 Harbor Way. It is open daily from 10am-5pm, except on Wednesays. The staff at the museum can be reached at 962-8404, or through their website listed above.
Ian Filippini Santa Barbara loves that the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum is located right on the waterfront, which is very appropriate! The outside is wonderful, but inside you can learn all about Santa Barbara’s rich local maritime history. There is information about present day marine research as well as stories and information from the Chumash from years past. There is also a special exhibit explaining how women tended the lighthouses from 1850-1920. There is so much to learn!
